In the fall of 2020 I managed to produce a livestream concert called GATHERING with Aureas Voces for Musique Royale. Featuring incredible artists Janelle Marina Lucyk, Killa Atencio and MAJE, and with audio crafted by the talented Joel Waddell, this project was a beacon of creativity during a turbulent time.
As we approach the 4-year anniversary, I’m excited to announce that the audio from this concert is being released as a live album! This work, inspired by the Helen Creighton collection and a decade of research, offers a brand new treatment of these timeless sources.
The concert was a deeply personal endeavor for me—providing a way to grieve, heal, and reimagine the future amidst many professional and personal challenges. I hope this album offers you a similar opportunity to reflect and grow in compassion.
An intimate candlelit concert featuring internationally renowned baritone Jonathon Adams, alongside acclaimed local music legend Matthew Larkin and members of the Caelis Academy Ensemble.
This unique evening will also highlight the inspiring talents of Emmanuel Solomon, Nigerian tenor and founder of Bikkurim Music Studios, an initiative dedicated to providing accessible music education in the community.
Proceeds from a candle of hope will directly support Bikkurim Music Studios and Caelis Academy, helping to make music education accessible and transformative for young people in our community.
June 14 at Chapelle Notre Dame de Bon Secours, Montreal.
This captivating concert explores folk music as art song, bringing together 4 unique and exciting artists and different musical traditions. The Art of Folk Song is not just a concert; it is an homage to the enduring power of folk music, and a unique opportunity for Halifax audiences to have an intimate experience of the incredible artistry of internationally renowned artists Charles Daniels and Jonathon Adams with Nigerian tenor Emmanuel Solomon and Nova Scotian director Nick Veltmeyer.

Nick has created and performed a wide variety of music for over 20 years, as a singer, conductor, organist, pianist, harpsichordist, and composer. He held the position of Organ Scholar at the University of King’s College, and as a graduate student at University of Toronto, Nick studied Voice, Organ and Composition as Vance Scholar of St. James Cathedral, Bevan Scholar of Trinity College, and Junior Fellow of Massey College. Nick is an accomplished interdisciplinary artist who is known for supporting his colleagues, leading many new initiatives and developing a distinctive approach to his productions, blending composition, historical performance, and the oral canon. Past productions include Jimmy and Rosalia, a folk opera which was premiered at Salle Bourgie of le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, supported by Canada Council for the Arts, Music Nova Scotia, and Arts Nova Scotia, and, as a winner of the Picanto 7x Festival, was distributed and promoted nationally in its digital form by the Canadian Music Centre. Nick is currently the Director of Music at Dominion-Chalmers United Church in downtown Ottawa, curating and leading concerts in Montreal and Ottawa.
Nick has an extensive background in community work, designing, leading, assisting and participating community-based arts programs. He holds a position at the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, working to empower youth through arts, entrepreneurship and social justice. Nick developed a passion for this work early in life, becoming involved in Heartwood Centre for Youth Development and Youth Art Connection. Nick's community leadership experience spans countless programs with public libraries, elementary schools, churches, long-term-care facilities, galleries, universities, and community organizations. In previous Music Director positions, he founded intergenerational community-based programs at the Presbyterian Church of Saint David (Halifax), Christ Church Anglican (Dartmouth) and Saint Stephen's Anglican (Chester). Nick's commitment to serving his community embodies the understanding that the power of creativity is critically unvalued by society. As technology develops, arts are increasingly used to mass market products, and Nick advocates mass participation in the arts, retrieving valuable traditions and counteracting the alienation of the public from the creative process.
